Contributing To Community Orchard Scheme That’s Protecting Pollinators
Riello UPS Ireland is delighted to support Host in Ireland’s ‘DCs for Bees’ biodiversity project.

Riello UPS Ireland is a proud partner of Host in Ireland, the influential industry body that brings together suppliers from across the data centre sector to work together and promote the country as a leading play in the digital economy.

The collaboration also involves the ‘DCs for Bees’ biodiversity project, which aims to save Ireland’s declining bee population.

Bee pollination contributes to 70% of the world’s crops, so it’s not an exaggeration to say that the success of our species is dependent on theirs.

But bees in Ireland are becoming critically endangered, with more than 33% of the 100 species facing extinction. The numbers of even the common bumblebee continue to decline alarmingly every year. And once a species is extinct, it cannot be reversed, so the balance of nature is affected forever.

As well as trying to raise awareness of the issue, a key element of DCs for Bees is the ‘Orchards in the Community’ programme aiming to create more than 3,500 new orchards and engage with local communities to make Ireland more pollinator-friendly and ensure the survival of bees for future generations.

Since November 2022, the scheme has planted nearly 18,000 fruit trees across the length and breadth of the country, providing pollinators with an early food source as they emerge from winter, whilst also offering vital green spaces in cities and towns for local residents to enjoy.

Riello UPS Ireland has donated several trees to the campaign and are proud to learn that they’ve recently been planted by the Briars Residents Association in County Meath and Carrigduff National School in County Wexford.
